Obituary of Evelyn J Luke

Evelyn J. Luke passed away on Sunday, February 25th at the age of 84 after a brief illness. Our mother passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. She retired from AT&T as a Customer Service Supervisor in 2004. She became a Certified Nurses Assistance and worked at the Augusta Veterans Nursing Home where she cared for our aging veterans until her final retirement in 2007. She was a past member of the Fraternal Orders of the Eagles where she was Ladies Auxiliary President and Bingo Chairwoman. She was a past member of American Legion Post 205 where she called Bingo and volunteered to work and serve charity dinners for our military and veterans.

She was preceded in death by her mother Carrie Norvell Gibson, her father T.Y. Gibson, Jr., her brothers Thomas Y. Gibson III, John A. Gibson Sr, and her best friend and loving daughter Cecila Nell Bartlett.

She is survived by son Cy Miller and wife Ann, son David Miller and wife Tamera, son James Luke Jr, grandsons Warren and wife missy and Daniel Bartlett, Lee and Kristopher Miller, James Luke III, great grandchildren Reid and Annabelle Bartlett, many nieces and nephews, her friend Jadene Neely and husband Jeff, and her faithful companion, her dog Fred who she would share her grits and oatmeal with while doing her daily newspaper puzzles.

She was a loving mother who cared for and looked after her children and grandchildren until her last day. She was a loving daughter, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all. There will be a private celebration of her life at a later date where her ashes will be placed with her mother and daughter as were her wishes.
