John, affectionately known as "Jay" by all who loved him left this galaxy suddenly at the age of 54 at his home. He was born in Plainfield, NJ to John L. Clayton, Jr. and Polly Dalgliesh Clayton. He graduated from North Stafford High School in Stafford, VA and Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ. He called Charleston, SC his home for over twenty-five years and worked in the construction and remodeling business. He was a skilled carpenter and loved the outdoors. His hobbies included cooking, hunting, fishing and collecting sports, Star Wars, and Hot Wheels memorabilia. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved visiting family and especially enjoyed spending time on Hilton Head Island, 4th of July celebrations in Maryland, and family gatherings in Goose Creek. He will be especially remembered as a devoted uncle to his three nieces Nichole, Kelso, and Ansley. He is survived by his mother, Polly and stepfather Peter Hopkinson, his stepmother Dara, his sister Dawn (Joven), stepsister Sue (Don), stepsister Linda (Jim), and stepbrother Alex and so many other family and extended family members. He is predeceased by his father, John, his maternal and fraternal grandparents, and his uncle John Dalgliesh. Jay was greatly loved, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.
