Obituary of CLAUDE EUGENE MAULDIN

Claude Eugene “Gene” Mauldin of Hanahan died Sunday November 15, 2015. He was born July 1, 1950 in Monks Corner, son of Richard “Sam” and Mary (Moore) Mauldin. He grew up in Summerville and graduated from Summerville High School in 1966. He enlisted in the Air Force reserves in 1969 and served as Loadmaster during Vietnam. He worked 43 years as a clerk/checker for ILA Local 1771. He was a Mason of the Summerville Lodge and raised as a Master Mason in 1973 Lodge 234. His true passion in life was being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking were all avid pursuits. He married his wife Nancy in 1989 and they spent many happy days traveling and seeing the country. Gene graduated the SC Master Naturalist Class in 2010 and was a past President of Coastal Master Naturalist Association. He volunteered at Cypress Gardens, maintaining and monitoring the Bluebird Trail. He also volunteered as a capture/transporter for the Birds of Prey Center. He was an avid birder and was certified by SC Wildlife Federation Pro-Birder Program. Gene is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Thomas (Susan) Mauldin of Goose Creek, Jonathan Trimble of Summerville; a daughter Tracy McClure of Cape Coral, FL; 3 grandsons; his brother Chris Mauldin, a sister Beverly Hunt. Preceding him in death are his parents, Thomas and Tracy’s mother Judy McLain, brother Bobby Mauldin, sister Janice Thomas, and nephew Kurt Mauldin. Funeral services will be private for family. Donations may be made to South Carolina Wildlife Federation, 215 Pickens St., Columbia, SC 29205, or to the charity of one’s choice.
